The brief descriptions below are designed to familiarize you with our staff's training, professional credentials and work experience.

Dr. Rodney Kosanovich
Board Certified, Foot and Ankle Surgery

Resides in the Sewickley area with his wife and children and is a life long Pittsburgh native. He is a graduate of Washington & Jefferson College as well as the Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine. He completed a Podiatric Surgical Residency Training at West Allegheny Hospital before beginning in private practice in 1983. Dr. Kosanovich is Board Certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery, certified in Foot and Ankle Surgery. He is also, a Fellow, American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons and past president of Division XII of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons representing Podiatrists in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Delaware.

Dr. Kosanovich is a Faculty member of UPMC South Side Podiatric Surgical Residency program, mentoring the educational development of the podiatric surgical residents. He has been a member of Ohio Valley General Hospital’s Wound Institute, dedicated to the treatment of non- healing and diabetic wounds as well as diabetic Charcot deformities of the foot and ankle, for over eighteen years. Dr Kosanovich has published multiple education articles and has lectured at a number of medical conferences.

Past accomplishments include: President, Medical Staff of St. Francis Central Hospital and Director, Podiatric Surgical Residency Program at St. Francis Central Hospital as well as West Allegheny Hospital. Dr. Kosanovich is currently or has been Associate Faculty to Barry University Podiatric Medical College, Temple Podiatric Medical College, and Ohio College of Podiatric Medical College. He is currently a member of the American Podiatric Medical Association, Pennsylvania Podiatric Medical Association and the Western Division of PPMA.

In addition to his dedication to general podiatric issues, Dr. Kosanovich has special interests in diabetic wounds as well as reconstructive foot and ankle surgery.

Dr. Rick L. Scanlan
Board Certified, Foot and Ankle Surgery

Dr. Rick Scanlan was born and raised in the Altoona area and currently residing in the South Hills of Pittsburgh. He is a graduate of Carnegie Mellon University and Ohio College of Podiatric Medicine. Dr. Scanlan completed a three year surgical residency program at UPMC South Side receiving extensive training in ankle and foot surgery from both podiatric and orthopaedic staff members. Currently Dr. Scanlan is a Board Certified by the American Board of Podiatric Surgery. He entered private practice in 1999 and has been associated with our practice since 2006.

Dr Scanlan is a Faculty member for the UPMC Mercy Podiatric Surgical Residency program mentoring the educational development of the podiatric surgical residents. As a past member of Ohio Valley General Hospital Wound Care Center dedicated to the treatment of non- healing and diabetic wounds, he has gained valuable knowledge treating diabetic Charcot deformities of the foot and ankle.

Dr. Scanlan is currently the Director of Podiatric Education at UPMC Mercy and the Chairman, Department of Podiatry at the Oakland VA. He has authored multiple educational articles and has lectured at a number of medical and surgical conferences. He is currently a Diplomat of the American Board of Podiatric Surgery and a Fellow of the American College of Foot and Ankle Surgeons.

Dr. Scanlan has a particular interest in complicated diabetic ulcers and associated Charcot bone deformities as well as reconstructive ankle and foot surgery.
